Length of Tenure Stream Service Prior to Conferral of Tenure

The total number of years in which faculty members are appointed as assistant professors in the tenure stream shall not exceed ten. If a person has served for ten years in the tenure stream, either he or she must be promoted to associate professor or professor with tenure or his or her service in the tenure stream must be terminated. Notification of termination must be made prior to the end of the ninth year in the tenure stream. Faculty members in the tenure stream shall have annual evaluations to document their progress and suitability for a tenure recommendation. In addition, a comprehensive mid-course review shall be conducted no later than the end of the fifth year of service in the tenure stream (School of Medicine Policy “Mid-Course Review of Clinical Tenure Candidates”). The maximum allowable duration of service in the tenure stream shall be independent of the previous service at another college or university.
